Abstract
The talk will present a thought experiment on the further growth of human activity spaces on the basis of a qualitative model of the links between the essential drivers of the geography and spatial spread of social networks today, and the resulting contact frequencies (face-to-face, phone, E-mail, SMS, IM and other modes) and miles travelled. The model will be illustrated with the results of a recent large-scale snowball sample of social networks, which was iterated for up to four iterations with starting seeds drawn in the metropolitan Zürich, Switzerland. The talk will provide an outlook on how such network information can be integrated with agent-based simulation models of daily behaviour and travel. Show more
