Abstract
This note comments on the general practise to use public road capital as a proxy for the service of the road system, as also employed in Shirley and Winston (2004). It shows that the required assumptions are violated in the Swiss case and in all likelihood in most other spatial contexts as well.<br/><br/>Die Literatur zur Schätzung der Produktivitätswirkung des Strassennetz verwendet den Kapitalstock im Strassennetz als Mass für die Dienstleistungen, die das Strassennetz produziert. Diese Notiz zeigt mit Beispielen aus der Schweiz, dass diese Verwendung bei der Betrachtung längerer Zeiträume und grosser Raumeinheiten nicht korrekt ist. Show more
